Start a Reading Journal

Reading Journal

It is approaching the end of this weekend and I'm still considering my Reading assignment. This Friday afternoon, I sat in the Lab reading some materials for pleasure to wait for sport activity. I was attracted by one article in National Geography, named as Pandas(named "panadas"). Not only did the cute illustration catch my eyes, but the article itself made me think a lot. After reading, I copied it and brought back planning to use it as my first reading journal, because when I read it, I pushed all my mind to the text and to understand what the author wants to show us, instead of treating it for preparation of journal as my purpose. However, when I took out my binder and checked the requirement, I found that article is not suitable. I have asked myself how to deal with it for a moment, finding a new proper reading about creativity or writing something else.

Actually, I don’t like to search a new right reading now, which lets me feel reading is for assignment. Thanks to kindly Eilidh, I have some choices not depending on the specific reading. What I need to cheer about is my previous reading is not totally meaningless. Let me explain it.

What is the purpose of academic reading? In my opinion, academic reading is one quick and efficient way to understand knowledge or study area that you want to know. For instance, in my college, I need to check a lot of academic materials of Hemp seed protein from researchers and professors; because before that I almost know nothing about Hemp seed protein and my experiment and essay are far away from the purpose. Academic reading is the most immediate way to make up my blank. Relying to(on) available academic reading, I made my plan of experiment in time and I did a good work on my essay at the end of my college. This experience is based on my own language, but I’m sure it is the same thing on all languages including English. Academic reading skill will be particularly important for graduate school, for more researches being(is) required. On the other hand, English academic reading differs from Chinese academic reading on the language level. It will be a great challenge for me to achieve the right level of academic reading, such as complicated structure of sentence, difficult grammar and quantities of professional words. For this moment, I read them very slowly, because it a little hard to understand the meaning in a fast speed, and I always need to read more than one time. I should learn to think and read in English academic way. It won’t be a easy beginning, a really tough thing, but I should and must get over it.

How is about reading for pleasure? It just likes my reading in Friday, without purpose, without compulsion. Reading is for pleasure, for relaxing, for spending time. It doesn’t request too much. If you like it, you can read your favorite part again and again or never look at silly stories. You can not find the word worry in this kind of reading. Pleasure is it reading for.

Of course, I prefer reading for pleasure, for no pressure. However, in the most time(most of the time), I need to do things that I don’t like to do very much, like academic reading. Go to read them and challenge myself.

Yes, we are all at that moment. As the second language, it is tough for every beginner. Just hold on there, I believe, you will enjoy your academic reading as soon as possible.
In my opinion I like to read the different subject reading material, such as Great comic art, why males and females are half and half, the history about American colonists. All of them are academic reading, however, behind every reading there is a story I dont konw. I want to explore and discover every thing in our world, which I can find in academic reading

Dear Yiqing:
i enjoyed reading your first journal entry, which shows that you have thought about the topic and you have some ideas about the meaning of academic reading.
Remember always to proffread and edit your work; even though this is a reading journal, you should still be thinking about your writing skills, and you should try to incorporate what you are learning in your writing class. i am looking for your overall response in these journals, and I won't be marking specific grammar points all of the time, but I wanted you to take a look at some things I noticed for this first journal:

-named,"Pandas"
-not only DID the cute...
-relying ON
- I did good work on...
-for graduate school
-for more research is required
-it won't be an easy beginning
-However, most of the time...

I am looking forward to reading your second journal entry!

I don't think the reading for pleasure is not required lot. Because of enough ability of controlling the language, writers could do a good job in it, with the relax mentale situation and just writ following the feelings. So we should learn it, a kind of another way to construct the article.

By the other hand, ther are more interesting words and idioms in the reading for pleasure. When we read it,we can learn more from it. And it will let our writing to more lifelikeness.
